ABOUT US

The Humboldt Gem and Mineral Society, founded in 1954, is a non-profit organization devoted to inspiring and nurturing a lasting passion for rockhounding, lapidary arts, and the diverse field of geology. Our mission is to support both our members and the broader community by providing opportunities to learn, explore, and engage with the natural world in meaningful and hands-on ways.

We are committed to helping individuals of all skill levels develop their abilities in cutting, shaping, and polishing gemstones, while also deepening their understanding of mineral identification, geological formations, and collecting techniques. Through workshops, field trips, educational programs, and community events, we create an environment where curiosity and craftsmanship come together.

The Society encourages responsible rockhounding practices, respect for the environment, and a spirit of discovery that connects people to the Earth’s history and beauty. By sharing knowledge, resources, and enthusiasm, we aim to cultivate a vibrant community that appreciates not only the artistry of lapidary work but also the scientific and natural significance of the materials we collect.
